This is the boat as it was brought home by my two boys, as in here is another project for you pops. Been wanting to build a microskiff for some time so I was up for it. what I wasn't up for was a completion time of about 7 months and many hours.[IMG]

I'm going to attempt to tackle rewiring my skiff. Tired of electrical issues and I need to sort out the previous owner's decade of random upgrades and mods.

I'm asking for a quality control (QC) check on my diagram. Shoot holes in it and help me avoid issues in the future. Any feedback is more than welcome! I really appreciate the help.

Apologies for the image resolution. The original diagram is accessible on my google drive here:...

Somewhere on this forum there was a discussion of the towing hole in the bow of HB Devilray. Can someone direct me to it. Decision: to leave open or fill it in??

Looking for custom fit cover for an '08 Tailfisher

Been looking on line for a custom fit cover for my Hewes Tailfisher.
I live in the Tampa area.

The cover that came with the boat fit okay, but the last heavy rain caused it to split along the grab bar on the console.

Looking on line, only one company (Covers Direct) seems to have one that might fit properly, and they say to contact them first. I contacted them and they don't stock for my boat.

Would I be better off with a locally made cover?

Who should I look at to build it?

What is...

Likes? Dislikes? I have the chance to buy a new one. The deal is way too good to pass up so I'm ditching my German SUV before the resale value tanks.

I should probably put the skiff on a scale but if I had to guess I would say Boat/motor/trailer are in the 1200 pound range. Typical trip for is us 100 miles each way on flat Louisiana roads.

Well gentlemen... the time has finally come to get my skiff restored. She's a 2001 Hell's Bay Waterman 16' Mosquito Lagoon Edition with a 2-stroke 40hp Merc on the back. I brought the boat to Glasser Boat Works this past weekend and am more than excited about getting this project underway. I knew going into the process about 99% of the things I wanted to do, but I still can't decide on a color. I'll be honest, I feel like a woman picking curtains but this is a tough decision. The non skid...

Poor Man's Micro

New to the group, I live in SWFL and I want to build the least expensive Microskiff I can. A few ideas I had were to buy a cheap gheenoe and modify it to fit my needs.

Some of my other more "Creative Ideas" were to modify a Sunfish Hull as seen below, however a sunfish hull won't plane and will only plow through water and I worry about its ability to make it through chop.

Thoroughbred Wheels for saltwater

Looking at getting new wheels for my trailer. As much as I'd like aluminum I'm worried about lug nuts scratching the coating. At that point might as well just stick with galvanized.

Someone told me to checkout Tredit's Thoroughbred. That they were specifically designed to work better in saltwater. They are coated in such a way that they hold up better than the traditional aluminum rims in salt.

I've started googling what I can but can't find anything substantiating that claim. Anyone...

Opinions. I know they are very nice but just curious as to why the price, what sets them apart? And if I get one, will it be the last reel I own?

I just got the bad news from my MRI and now I'm scheduled to see a surgeon for a ruptured disk in my neck and a torn up shoulder. I was just wondering if anyone here has managed to learn how to cast a fly rod with the other hand? I haven't fly fished in over a year because it hurts too much and it's really starting to suck.

I've been gradually working on my 17T for a year or so now, doing lots of unsexy improvements myself. Now she's at Sarasota Custom Boatworks for paint. I'll add more photos and detail later, but for now, here are a couple of shots in process.

The hull is a 50-50 mix of Quantum Paints seafoam and snow white. Slicks will be snow white and nonskid will be a darkish off-white called graystone. Sides still have a little of that good old Pathfinder waviness, but they managed to fair her out...

Marco Island Fly Patterns

So my dad just pulled one of his surprise vacations out of his butt and told me that we're going to Marco island for a week. I normally get bored on vacation and end up fishing the beach before anyone wakes up. Anybody have an idea what fish I should be targeting? I'm assuming reds and snook but mainly snook. Are there especially productive fly patterns for that are?

Has anyone figured out which stainless prop is a good fit for this hull? The stock aluminum prop is pretty alright performance wise but the oysters are eating it up fast. I'd like to replace it while it's still good enough to use as a spare.

Hey guys,

I have a 2007 Gheenoe Highsider that I have fished the hell out of, mainly inshore in the big-bend area of FL. Since I got it new, it's always had a ton of floor flex but has not been an issue until 2015 where it developed a very small leak at my feet in front of the bench. I still finished the year with the leak but the boat has been in storage for the last year and a half as I was living temporarily in Austin, TX for my job.

I wanted to reach out to you guys to see what my...
